Green Bay Packers extend Jaire Alexander

On Monday afternoon, the Packers signed All-Pro Cornerback Jaire Alexander to a four-year $84 million contract extension. Alexander’s new deal averages $21 million per year which makes him the highest paid CB in the NFL.

I love this move for the Packers, this offseason there were questions as to whether the Packers would choose to extend Alexander or Davante Adams if he decided to come back. Obviously Adams did not come back so it made this a relatively easy choice.

Alexander played in only four regular season games last year, but did come back to play in the NFC Divisional Round Playoff Game against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite the injury, from 2018-2020 Alexander has led the Packers in pass breakups and has the fourth most pass breakups in the NFL with 42 over the past three seasons trailing only James Bradberry, (45) Stephon Gilmore, (43) and Janoris Jenkins (43).

The tide has shifted, the Packers has now become a defense first-team with the loss of Davante Adams which is a weird thing to say with Aaron Rodgers on the roster, but let’s see if he can reap the benefits of collecting his second SB with the help of an ascending defense.
