Where Will Johnny Davis End Up?

As a sophomore at Wisconsin Johnny Davis took a leap that few are capable of. During his sophomore year at Wisconsin he had a line of 19.7 PTS, 8.2 REB, 2.1 AST, and shot 42.7% from the field. These stats got him a spot as a finalist for the Wooden award and a guaranteed lottery pick in the draft on June 23rd. During his freshman year he averaged 7 PTS, 4.1 REB, 1.1 AST, and shot 44.1% while playing in 31 games and coming off the bench for 30 of those 31. I really don’t think anyone saw the jump from 7 points to almost 20, but the season Johnny and the Badgers had can’t be overlooked. Johnny led Wisconsin to a share of the Big 10 regular season title with wins against Indiana and Purdue on the road. Enough background, let’s get down to some Johnny Davis mock draft projections and where I think he’ll go.

New Orleans Pelicans – Pick 8

Johnny Davis going to the Pelicans and teaming up with guys like Zion, CJ, and Brandon Ingram is such an exciting thought for me as a Johnny fan, New Orleans took the Suns to six games this year in the first round without Zion and still have the 8th pick in this upcoming draft. If they draft well in this spot and if Zion comes back healthy the Pelicans have the potential to boom next season. I like this fit for JOhnny and having him get drafted at 8 will be big for the program to have another top 10 pick and the first since Kaminsky.

San Antonio Spurs – Pick 9

I think San Antonio is probably the most likely landing spot for Johnny. As a big Badger and a big Johnny Davis fan this would excite me. Having Johnny go to play for one of the best coaches in NBA history is just such an exciting thought. When Johnny was asked about playing for Coach Popovich he said:

“Playing under coach Popovich, the most famous coach in NBA history, would be something I would really want to happen.”

There is a report that Johnny had a meeting with the Spurs recently for a pre-draft workout. I think that Joey here makes the most sense and could give the Spurs a good 2-way player who could join the starting lineup and fit in seamlessly.

Washington Wizards – Pick 10
The Wizards are another interesting spot and a lot of mocks have him here as well. I think that Johnny to Wizards is another good spot for him to land. If the Wizards keep Bradley Beal and add Johnny Davis that backcourt scoring would be crazy. The Wizards are still rebuilding and are getting better and if they keep Beal and add Johnny I think they can get back to the playoffs and possibly win a series next season.

I personally think Johnny will land at number 9 with the Spurs, but I would be good with him going to any of these teams. All of them have good futures and things going for them. If Johnny would somehow end up on the Kings I would not be very happy. Anyway, I think Johnny has so much potential and upside for any team that takes a swing at him in the draft on the 23rd. I also will be buying a Johnny jersey as soon as they go up for sale.
