Here at Mental Dimes, I pride myself on being the Wisconsin sports guy. The Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, and Packers are my favorite teams and I will try to blog every story I can about those teams but there will be stories in which I don’t feel deserve a whole blog on their own. Instead I am starting my own series “Wisconsin sports stories of the past week.” Where I will write a short blurb about events that happened in Wisconsin sports, they could be funny, heartwarming, sad, or just plain news. So here are my top five Wisconsin sports stories of the week.
5. Braelon Allen hosts charity softball game in hometown
Wisconsin RB Braelon Allen returned to his hometown of Fond Du Lac last week to host a charity softball game. 30 Wisconsin players showed up to Allen’s event which included a home run derby and the softball game. The proceeds of the event will go to the United Way and the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame.
4. Luis Urias hits walk-off single
The Brewers were able to start 1-0 post All-Star Break after a walk-off single from third baseman Luis Urias to edge the Rockies 6-5. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the 10th inning. The Rockies scratched across two runs to put the Brewers in a 5-3 hole. Milwaukee was down it’s last strike, before Hunter Renfroe hit a HR to deep left off Rockies reliever Robert Stephenson to tie the game at five. Urias was to take a cutter from Jake Bird and bloop it out to right center which scored Jonathan Davis who was on because of the extra inning ghost runner rule and Davis scored easily and Milwaukee was able to pull off the win.
3. Devin Williams pitches a scoreless inning the 2022 All-Star Game
Devin Williams is good.
2. AJ Dillon DESTROYS Kenosha Kingfish mascot.
Imagine being Trey Meier last week. Meier who for the last two summers, has been King Elvis the Kenosha Kingfish mascot. Before every game, King Elvis zip-lines down from the left-field foul pole to deliver the first pitch that was a walk in the park considering what Meier had to endure last Sunday.
Doing the Oklahoma Drill which involves lining up opposite from each other and the two people run at each other until one of them is on the ground. That’s what supposed to happen; that’s not what happened on Sunday as Dillon blasted through Meier as if he were a scrawny 5-10 defensive back, popping off his mascot head and let’s be honest man’s was probably sore the next morning.
The good news is Bleacher Report picked up the video and Meier did go viral and the team got good publicity but it takes guts to willingly take a hit from an NFL athlete.
1. MarJon Beauchamp buys his Mom a house
Three months ago Bucks rookie MarJon Beauchamp tweeted this.
Three months later Beauchamp accomplished that goal.
Inspiring.
