In a shocking move, Brewers designate newly acquired Dinelson Lamet for assignment

Welp so much for that.

On Wednesday, Milwaukee designated RHP Dinelson Lamet for assignment. President of Baseball Operations David Stearns spoke about the move today.

“Dinelson has a good arm and was included in the trade to help balance the deal.” Stearns says. “As subsequent transactions played out, the roster fit became a little tougher. We are hopeful we will be able to keep him in our system.”

I’m shocked but not surprised about the move. Milwaukee acquired three relief pitchers at the trade deadline and while Lamet has great stuff, but there wasn’t any room for him in the rotation nor in the bullpen. With Freddy Peralta come off the injured list on Wednesday and Adrian Houser supposedly being activated off the IL in mid-late August or early September. Lamet wasn’t in Milwaukee’s future plans.

OTHER MOVES

Milwaukee also designated catcher Pedro Severino for assignment. Severino is coming off an 80-game suspension for PED use and with Milwaukee having a logjam at catcher Severino didn’t factor into Milwaukee’s plans since he would have been ineligible for postseason play if Milwaukee makes it that far.

Keston Hiura was recalled from Triple A-Nashville. Hiura slashed .319, six home runs, 18 RBI’s in 13 games. in Triple-A.

Hiura has been hitting better in the majors this season, hitting .238, with eight home runs, 17 RBI’s in 43 games for Milwaukee this season.

Freddy Peralta was activated off the 60-day IL. Peralta will start in tonight’s game vs the Pittsburgh Pirates.
