Cincinnati Bengals 53 Man Projection

  • Joe Burrow
  • Brandon Allen

Many Cincinnati fans wanted to see Brandon Allen and Jake Browning compete for that back up QB spot but in all reality, this has always been Brandon Allen’s job the organization seems to really like him. Jake browning did have a good camp and if he doesn’t end up getting picked up should be a prime candidate for the Bengals Practice Squad.

  • Joe Mixon
  • Samaje Perine
  • Chris Evans

I have the Bengals only keeping three running backs on the roster for the 53 cut down. Now with that being said I believe the Bengals try to get Trayveon Williams and Jacques Patrick if not both one of these guys on the practice squad. Coach Taylor earlier in training camp brought up that there is a competition for the 3rd running back spot, but I believe Chris Evans put together a stronger camp include his ability as a returner in special teams gives your winner for RB3

  • Ja’Marr Chase
  • Tee Higgins
  • Tyler Boyd
  • Stanley Morgan Jr.
  • Mike Thomas
  • Kendric Pryor

Here comes the first controversy with this depth chart. I think Kendric Pryor found a way to go from undrafted to final 53 with the training camp he has had add showing up and making an impact in all three preseason games and here we are. This isn’t going to be the popular pick seeing as Trent Taylor stepped up big last year when the Bengals needed to replace Darius Phillips so if anyone takes Wide Receiver 6 it would be Trent Taylor. I look at it from a different approach seeing as the biggest talk surrounding the Bengals future is how do they pay everyone, so getting an undrafted steal that came in and has earned some trust might be worth not risking him getting claimed.

  • Hayden Hurst
  • Drew Sample
  • Thad Moss
  • *Mitchell Wilcox ( Starts on an injury list)

I have three counting against the 53 man roster because I see Wilcox starting the season on an injury list but I don’t think the Bengals seen enough from Moss especially blocking. That was the main reason he didn’t make the roster last year because of his struggles blocking and isn’t someone viewed as a player they can use on special teams. Now the irony of all this is his block on Kayvon Thibodeaux sent the world hysterical (literally it was a clean block teams do several times a game) even having analyst calling for a suspension. Moss has gotten the inside track for TE 3 with Wilcox missing most of camp but hasn’t run away with it because of big runs that were called back to him getting called for holding and a couple dropped pass.

  • Jonah Williams
  • D’Ante Smith

  • Cordell Volson
  • Jackson Carmen

  • Ted Karras
  • Trey Hill

  • Alex Cappa
  • Hakeem Adeniji

  • La’el Collins
  • Isaiah Prince

Unfortunately for the Bengals this might be the easiest to slot for projections. You may have a massive upgrade to the starters, but the depth is still the same. I only used players that the Bengals have on their roster currently, but I can see the Bengals calling it a loss and moving on from Carmen. I think at this point you could get some player as a cut day return like the Bengals did with Billy Price when the traded for B.J. Hill. We all know how that paid off.

  • Trey Hendrickson
  • Sam Hubbard
  • Joseph Ossai
  • Cam Sample
  • Jeff Gunter
  • *Khalid Kareem (some injury list)

I have them using five roster spots here, but six players listed the Bengal’s could put Kareem on the injured list just to get through the initial waiver instead of placing a player like Gunter to be claimed before he could hit a practice squad. Kareem has been struggling to stay on the field so would leave him as a cut candidate. The Bengals are looking for a massive increase in sacks with the return of Joseph Ossai. I have Cam Sample list as a defensive end, but I see him getting a lot of play inside.

  • D.J. Reader
  • B.J. Hill
  • Zach Carter
  • Josh Tupou

The Bengals are able to go with four defensive tackles here because of the versatility this defense is able to bring. Reader and Hill are going to be the primary interior defensive tackles but look for the Bengals to rotate Carter, Sample, and even Sam Hubbard could kick inside when Ossai comes in off the edge. This is another area where I see the Bengals making an acquisition. As quick as it could be for the Bengals to move on from Jackson Carmen it could be as quick as they move on from Tyler Shelvin. Cincinnati had high hopes for Shelvin but like Carmen for some reason or another they just can’t get the best out of them.

  • Logan Wilson
  • Germain Pratt
  • Akeem Davis-Gaither
  • Marcus Bailey
  • *Joe Bachie (Some Injured List)
  • Clay Johnston

The Bengals could put Bachie on an injured list to get through initial waves with Johnston. Clay put together a strong preseason together with 20 tackles against the Giants. Johnston put one of the best performances together this training camp and should be a steal for someone if the Bengals let him go. This is a unit that is pretty well set in its way as who will make the team roster it’s been the same core going on the third year now. This is the perfect example when they say if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

  • Chidobe Awuzie
  • Mike Hilton
  • Eli Apple
  • Tre Flowers
  • Cam Taylor-Britt
  • Jalen Davis
  • Allan George

This is another area that would be cause for concern to let a player hit waivers in George. He had a strong camp and even earned some time over Taylor-Britt with the first teams that raised some eyebrows for Bengals fans and was a conversation for a few days. I think once again you resort back to how strong he had a camp and whose contracts are coming off. The Bengals have to ask themselves if losing him to waivers is worth trying to hit on a player at this position next year. George is a player that has made the best of his opportunities.

  • Jessie Bate III
  • Vonn Bell
  • Daxton Hill
  • Tycen Anderson
  • Michael Thomas

Daxton Hill is going to find snaps everyone in the secondary, so keeping a fifth safety is not a bad idea. With Bates return on the franchise tag this makes this team a whole different type of scary. With Super Bowl experience watch this defense start where they left off especially knowing Bates is on a prove it deal. Vonn Bell also on a contract year the Bengals are just adding up the reason to prove it.

Special Teams

  • K Evan McPherson
  • P Kevin Huber
  • LS Clark Harris

The real debate at camp has been the punter competition and does Kevin Huber edge out Drue Chrisman and I think for one more year he doesn’t make the cut. Chrisman would definitely be signed to the practice squad if Buffalo doesn’t pick him up. If it wasn’t for the Buffalo Bills suddenly needing a Punter and Huber having the experience, I could of seeing Huber trying to be sneaked on the practice squad. I just don’t see Kevin Huber playing anywhere else other than Cincinnati at this point in his career.
