Yankees Rewind: 9/5-9/11/22

Happy Labor Day Sports fans, doesn’t it feel good to have 2 wins under our belts, from this past weekend?

The Yankees now start a 7-game home stand, starting with the Minnesota Twins. They take them on for a 3 game set @ Yankee Stadium.

Monday September 5, 2022

Starting Pitcher- Jameson Taillon

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Josh Donaldson hit an RBI single to deep left field scoring Aaron Judge, but he was tagged out at second to put the Yankees up 1-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Marwin Gonzalez hit a solo home run to put the Yankees up 2-0.

In the top of the 5th inning, Ex Yankee player, Gary Sanchez hit a 2-run home-run to left field to knot the game at 2.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Judge hit a 2-run home-run and New York regained the lead 4-2.

And that’s why you sign him!!

In the bottom of the 7th inning, IKF hit a solo home run to left field and the Yankees won by 3 runs (5-2). They take game 1 of the series.

The 5-2 win bring the Bombers to a 5[1/2] game lead in the A.L. East with 27 games left

Tonight’s game was postponed due to weather and they will be playing a day-night double header on Wednesday.

Wednesday September 7, 2022 (Game 1)

Starting Pitcher– Domingo German

The New York Yankees returned home to face the Minnesota Twins after a rain out last night for two games of a day-night double header from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Jose Miranda hit a 2-run home-run to left field to put the Twins up 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning.

In the top of the 4th inning, Gilberto Celestino hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Jake Cave to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Yankees got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning. Aaron Judge hit a solo home run to left field and the Twins now led 3-1.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Gleyber Torres hit a 2-run home-run to knot the game @ 3.

In the top of 12th inning, Celestino hit a go-head RBI single to right field, scoring Jermaine Palacios and the Twins led 4-3. Now the Yankees will have their turn to bat in the bottom half of the inning.

IKF hit a game tying RBI single to shallow center field, scoring Marwin Gonzalez to knot the game @ 4-4. Rookie Oswaldo Cabrera hit a walk off RBI single to shallow center field and the Yankees took game 1 of the double header 5-4.

With his home run, Aaron Judge is now up to 55 on the season. He sets Yankees record for right handed hitters. This is also Judge’s 114th home run @ new Yankee Stadium, one more than Mark Teixeira’s previous record of 113. The new Stadium originally opened in 2009.

(Game 2)

Starting Pitcher- Gerrit Cole

The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins returned to the field for Game 2.

The game was scoreless until the top of the 3rd inning when Carlos Correa hit a solo home run to left field to put the Twins up 1-0.

IKF hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 4th inning to put the Yankees up 4-1.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Yankees put the game away as Aaron Hicks hit a bases clearing double, scoring 3 runs.

The Yankees won 7-1 and swept the doubleheader.

Judge has hit 15 home runs in the 28 games he’s played against AL Central teams this season. No other player has hit more than 11 homers versus teams from that division this year.

Thursday September 8, 2022

Starting Pitcher- Nestor Cortes

The New York Yankees faced the Minnesota Twins for the final game of their 4 game set from Yankee Stadium.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Miguel Andujar hit a 2-run home-run to put the Yankees up first, 2-0.

In the top of the 5th inning, Gary Sanchez hit an RBI double to deep left field, scoring Ex Yankee player Gio Urshela to make it a 2-1 game. Nick Gordon hit an RBI single to shallow left field, scoring Sanchez to tie the game @ 2.

In the top of the 8th inning, Carlos Correa hit a 2-run home-run to left field to give the Twins a 4-2 lead.

Andujar walked on a wild pitch, scoring Aaron Judge, but that would be the final run of the game.

The Yankees lose 4-3 to the Twins, but still win the series 3 games out of 4.

Tomorrow is a big day for the Yankees as they will celebrate Derek Jeter night.

Starting Pitcher– Frankie Montas

Prior to the game, the Yankees celebrated Derek Jeter Night as the shortstop spent all 23 seasons with the Yankees and won 5 Golden Glove Awards. He also had 3,465 career hits and played in 158 post season games. Joining him in the celebration were his teammates and good friends Jorge Posada, Tino Martinez, Mariano Rivera, Joe Torre, and Andy Pettitte.

The Tampa Bay Rays came to the city to face the New York Yankees for the first game of a 3 game series from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

In the top of the 1st inning, Randy Arozarena hit an RBI double to deep left field, scoring Wandy Franco to put the Rays up 1-0.

In the top of the 4th inning, Franco hit a two run double, scoring Yandy Diaz, and Ji-Man Choi and Tampa Bay led 3-0. Arozarena hit an RBI double to deep left center scoring Franco and the Rays opened up the lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Aaron Judge hit an RBI single to left field scoring Oswald Peraza to make it 4-1 Rays.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Kyle Higashioka hit a solo home run to left field, but that would be the last time the Yankees would score as Tampa takes game 1, 4-2.

It looks like we will be getting Josh Donaldson back tomorrow to play 3rd base, as he has been on Maternity leave.

Starting Pitcher- Jameson Taillon

The Tampa Bay Rays faced the New York Yankees for the 2nd game of a 3 game set from Yankee Stadium. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Gleyber Torres hit an RBI single to shallow right field, scoring Aaron Judge to put the Yankees up 1-0. Oswaldo Cabrera hit a 2 run single to right field, scoring Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton and the Yankees led 3-0. Miguel Andujar hit an RBI single to shallow center field, scoring Josh Donaldson to make it 4-0 Yanks. Kyle Higashioka reached on a fielder’s choice to shallow infield, scoring Cabrera and the Yankees led 5-0. Judge hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Miguel Andujar and the score was 6-0 after the 1st inning.

In the top of the 2nd inning, Donaldson hit a solo home run to right field to put the Yankees up 7-0.

In the top of the third inning, Wander Franco hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Jose Siri and it was 7-1 New York.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Donaldson scored on a wild pitch from Calvin Faucher and the Yankees led 8-1. IKF hit an RBI single to shallow center field, scoring Estevan Florial to make it 9-1, Yankees.

In the top of the 8th inning, Harold Rameriez hit a 2 run single scoring Siri and Jonathan Aranda to make it 9-3 Rays.

In the bottom of the 8th, Stanton hit a solo home run to put the game away for the Yankees.

The Yankees took game 2, 10-3 and split the series 1-1.

In the 1st inning, the Bombers had their 1st-7 batters have base hits, it hasn’t been done since 9-25-1990. Way to get the team going!

Starting Pitcher- Domingo German

After almost an 1 hour and 48 minute rain delay, it was time for baseball in the Bronx. The New York Yankees took on the Tampa Bay Ray’s for the final game of their 3rd game set from Yankee Stadium.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Gleyber Torres hit a 3-run home-run to center field, to put the Yankees up 3-0.

Jose Siri hit an RBI single to shallow right field scoring Taylor Walls making it 3-1.

The Yankees bats went crazy from there on. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Aaron Judge hit a sac fly to center field, scoring IKF and the Yankees increased their lead to 4-1. Giancarlo Stanton belted a 3-run home-run to right field giving the Yankees a 7-1 lead. Torres batted a solo home run to now make it 8-1. Oswaldo Cabrera capped of the scoring with his 1st major league home run, a 2-run home-run giving the Bombers a 10-1 lead after 2 innings.

In the top of the 6th inning, Christian Bethancourt hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Randy Arozarena to make it 10-2. Taylor Walls hit an RBI single to left center field scoring Benthancourt to cut the deficit to 10-3.

In the top of the 9th inning, Ji Man Choi hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Jonathan Aranda.

The Yankees won game 3 big over the Rays, 10-4 and took the series 2-1.

The Yankees did what they had to do by taking 2 of the 3 games from the Rays. They played an outstanding weekend. Now they travel to Boston to play my favorite rival team, The Red Sox!
