Yankees Rewind: 10/3-10/5/22

Welcome back Sports fans! Can you believe that this is the last regular season series that the Yankees will be playing?

Aaron Judge is still tied with Roger Maris @ 61 home runs. Let’s see if he can beat him in the next four games?

Monday October 3, 2022

Starting Pitcher- Luis Severino

The New York Yankees took on the Texas Rangers for the 1st game of a 4 game set from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

In the top of the 5th inning, Kyle Higashioka hit an RBI single to left field scoring Aaron Hicks and the Yankees led 1-0.

In the top of the 8th inning, Marwin Gonzalez hit a solo home run to right field, making it 2-0 Yankees. Giancarlo Stanton added a solo shot to center field to put the Bombers up 3-0.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Kole Calhoun grounded out to the shallow infield to Oswaldo Cabrera, scoring Josh Jung. But it wasn’t enough.

The Yankees took game 1 on the road, 3-1.

Fun fact: On September 19, 2011, Mariano Rivera recorded his 602nd career save to break the major league record of 601, set by Trevor Hoffman from 1993 through 2010. The untouched closer came into the game at the beginning of the ninth inning with the Yankees leading the Twins 6-4 at Yankee Stadium. Rivera retired all three batters, finishing with a strikeout to Chris Parmelee. The future Hall of Famer finished his career in 2013 with 652 saves, a 2.21 ERA in 952 games and 1,283 {2/3} innings. In the postseason, Rivera earned another 42 saves along with an 0.70 ERA in 141 innings.

Tuesday October 4, 2022

The Yankees faced the Rangers for game 1 of a doubleheader from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Game 1

Starting Pitcher- Jameson Tallion

In the top of the 1st inning, Oswaldo Cabrera hit a solo home run to right field and the Yankees led, 1-0.

In the bottom of the 1st, Josh Jung hit a 2 run single to right field, scoring Adolis Garcia and Nathanial Lowe, giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the 2nd inning, Oswald Peraza hit a solo home run to left field, tying the game, 2-2.

In the top of the 5th inning, Marwin Gonzalez hit an RBI single to shallow left field, scoring Peraza and the Bombers regained the lead, 3-2.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Adolis Garcia hit a 2-run home-run to left field and Texas regained its lead, 4-3.

In the top of the 8th inning, Kyle Higashioka hit a solo home run to center field, to even the contest @ 4. Harrison Bader hit a game-winning single to left field, scoring Aaron Judge and the Yankees took game 1 of the doubleheader, 5-4.

Game 2

Starting Pitcher- Gerrit Cole

The New York Yankees took on the Texas Rangers for game 2 of the doubleheader.

In the top of the 1st inning, Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run, passing Roger Maris for the AL record. They took a 1-0 lead over the Rangers.

And that’s why you sign him!!

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Adolis Garcia hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Marcus Semien to knot the game @ 1.

In the top of the 5th inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run to give the Yankees the lead, 2-1.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Leody Taveras hit a 2-run home-run to right field and the Rangers won game 2, 3-2.

Gerrit Cole set the major league single season strikeout record with 248 strikeouts.

And of course we have to Congratulate Aaron Judge for hitting #62 and breaking the American League Home Run Record!

Starting Pitcher- Domingo German

The New York Yankees faced the Texas Rangers for the final game of the regular season from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

In the top of the 2nd inning, Kyle Higashioka hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Oswald Peraza and the Yankees led, 1-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Charlie Culberson hit a solo home run to left field and the game was tied, 1-1.

In the top of the 4th inning, Jose Trevino hit a solo shot to left field, giving New York a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Jonah Heim hit a solo home run to right field and the game was knotted, 2-2.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Bubba Thompson hit an RBI double to shallow left field, scoring Leody Taveras and the Rangers grabbed their first lead, 3-2. Marcus Semien hit an RBI single to right center field, scoring Thompson, and the Rangers took the 2nd game of the doubleheader, 4-2.

The No. 2 seed New York Yankees finish the regular season (99-63). They will wait for the winner of the 3-game AL Wild Card series between the No. 6 seed Tampa Bay Rays and the No. 3 seed Cleveland Guardians. Their series is set to begin Friday October, 7, 2022.

Meanwhile, the No.1 seed Houston Astros will wait the winner of the series between the No. 5 seed Seattle Mariners and the No. 4 seed Toronto Blue Jays. The Astros and Blue Jays series will also start on Friday October 7, 2022.
