Kennesaw State to the C-USA

Who is Kennesaw State? What do they bring to the table for a conference trying to stay alive? The future is starting to take shape for the future of C-USA as they’re trying to lock up teams, so the conference can keep moving forward.

The football program out of Kennesaw, Georgia is young, and I mean YOUNG. The program isn’t even a decade old, as the program played its first game in 2015. But this young program knows how to play ball. In its seven years of existence the program has a 63-19 all time record to date. They’ve made the FCS playoffs 4 times and has a winning record set at 5-4. The owls have three conference titles winning in 2017,2018, and 2021.

The team would most likely need to renovate Fifth Third Bank Stadium, as the stadium currently only holds 8,318 people. As the current smallest stadium in the new C-USA is currently held by Sam Houstons Elliot T. Bowers Stadium holds 14,000. They play in the same conference as current expansion team Jacksonville State.

Basketball needs to be mentioned as C-USA looks to be a good, to great basketball conference in the near future. They have a D-2 national championship, but have struggled since going up to the A-Sun. Again facilities will need to improve as their current stadium sits 4,600. This shouldn’t worry many as expansion isn’t about basketball.

As stated above this isn’t about basketball, its about football. The Owls know how to play football as their worst season was their first season when they went 6-5. Ever since than their worst season was 2016 when they went 8-3. Kennesaw State isn’t a sexy name when it comes to conference realignment, but it is a solid program.
