Green Bay drops its third straight game with a shocking 23-21 loss to the Commanders

Going into this season, Green Bay had an idea that it would struggle without Davante Adams but goodness nobody could have predicted that it would get this bad.

Three straight losses on what was supposed to be an easy part of the schedule isn’t just alarming, we might as well press DEFCON 5, 6 7 8 and 9 this isn’t a good football team; not just right now, there is one component in particular that is flawed; it is the wide receiver room. Here a few problem with the guys on our team.

Allen Lazard is not a number one wide receiver and wouldn’t be on most teams So why did Brian Gutekunst try to replace Davante Adams with a guy who has never caught 50 balls in a season? Allen Lazard is who he is a great complimentary receiver but not a top guy.

Randall Cobb is only on this team because Rodgers wanted him that’s it. Cobb is a guy who was great for Green Bay at the start of his career, but now he’s a guy who’s on the back-nine of his career and if he were cut for a guy like Odell Beckham Jr there’s no Packers’ fans who would be upset at the move.

Sammy Watkins has only played 16 games only once in his NFL career. I know it’s hard to consistently play all 16 games, but the point is Watkins hasn’t been consistently available he’s always seemingly hurt and when he’s not he doesn’t have an impact on offense.

Romeo Doubs is a rookie so he’s continuing to develop but he’s had a few crucial drops and yet his talent outweighs the rookie mistakes he bound to make so Doubs is the only guy I’m excited to watch grow.

The defense once again came out dominant in the first half, but came out flat in the second half and made Taylor Heinicke looks like Joe Montana. Heinicke went 20/33 for 201 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Jaire Alexander talked this week about wanting the challenge of guarding Commanders top WR Terry McLaurin so how’d that go? Not well McLaurin beat Alexander deep on a 37-yard touchdown grab on a perfectly thrown ball from Heinicke and McLaurin was able to outmuscle Alexander on a crucial 3rd and 9 to pick up 12 yards and essentially salt the game away.

Special teams hasn’t been playing up to standard the last couple of weeks. A blocked punt for a touchdown in last week’s game cost them against the Jets and on Sunday Amari Rodgers muffed a punt with Green Bay up 7-0 granted Green Bay held them to a field goal, but it’s a play that cannot happen.

Future outlook: Green Bay plays at Buffalo on Sunday Night Football and unless a time machine magically appears and the offense of ten years ago is on that field, Green Bay has no shot to knock off the Bills and Josh Allen on SNF.
