Wisconsin hires Luke Fickell as next football coach

In an unexpected turn of events, Wisconsin is hiring Luke Fickell as the next coach of the football program.

Wisconsin went through a turbulent season with the early season firing of Paul Chryst and Jim Leonhard becoming interim head coach. The Badgers finished with a 6-6 record after dropping the final regular season game against Minnesota.

Many expected Leonhard to get the job regardless of how Wisconsin finished the season. The players respected Jim Leonhard and wanted him to get the job essentially as soon as he was made interim coach, but in the end AD, Chris McIntosh decided on a proven commodity.

Fickell had a successful tenure at Cincinnati going 57-18 including a CFP appearance and this year becoming the winningest head coach in Cincinnati history.

Fickell has a track record of getting players to the NFL from Desmond Ridder, to Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, and Coby Bryant. He’s had a track record of developing talent.

He will have his hands full fixing the Badgers. Finding a quarterback, finding good players in recruiting, and getting Wisconsin back to playing in important bowl games will be the items on Fickell’s checklist.

The future is bright in Madison.
